through much trial and error, i believe i have cracked the code to the good life, so listen carefully!
1.) bite back
living too PASSIVELY is a RECIPE for a lackluster existence. there are times in life when surviving is all we can muster, but to endure your life instead of reveling in it is a great tragedy. get up when you are knocked down, every time. life isn’t something that happens to us; it shouldn’t be.
2.) be audacious and have faith in that audacity
fortune favors the bold: those brave enough to ask, take, and try where others shy away. act like great things are constantly in your grasp and on your horizon and they will be.
3.) Be a person of action
happy people aren’t happy because everything works out for them and EVERYTHING THEY want falls INTO THEIR LAPs; no, happy people are happy because they KNOW the art of ready, set, go! the ability to leave bad situations, motivate yourself to grow, leap into new things, act on dreams – that is the key. you must go and do and shape the life you wish to have.
4.) master thyself
most people consider themselves to have themselves well in hand, but, in reality, most people are controlled by some aspect of their psyche that they have allowed to run wild. ego, fear, anger, insecurity – for example. a person who can accept and overcome the darkest parts of their consciousness – that is a free person.
5.) let it go
if you live in the past you will certainly die there as well. to have what is meant for you, you must let go of what you once had. to meet who is meant for you, you must let go of those you once knew. nothing is permanent in this life and it is a fool who wastes their days chasing what was never meant to stay. to realize life as we live it is a gift only some RECEIVE and only some of the time.
6.) Understand that we are not meant to understand
people spend years of their lives worrying about their souls, why things happen the way they do, where we go after this, what the whole point is, if the world really is bound to end. these are all very human qualms; natural and much, much fun to ponder and theorize about in moderation and good spirit. it is in the fear, anxiety, indignation, and demanding to know that these PHILOSOPHICAL questions become a distraction from the very real life we are meant to be living. if you can unburden yourself from the human condition of wanting to know DEFINITIVELY the secrets of the universe, you can begin to marvel at the human experience for the MIRACLE that it is!
7.) “to make living itself an art, that is the goal.” – henry miller
notice little joys in every day, fill your free time with things and people that impassion and inspire and sustain you, take the whimsical route, meet rejection as realignment, test your comfort zone, make the plans and throw the parties, say every compliment that comes to your mind. We can live as though the trials of everyday life are a great weight upon us, or we can live as though every day is simply part of the dance.
every day is all we have.
